Drumming is by nature about bringing people together, in fact that is what the djembe was created for. We cater for all ages and abilities and specialise in workshops and interactive performances that meet the needs of any group.

Drummergirl curates African drumming workshops for all groups and sectors within our community. Our expertise is on catering for smaller groups (up to 50). Through over 10 years of experience in the business, we have learned that this number of participants allows us to better take the needs of individuals into account within the whole group setting.

Our most popular sessions are:

  • Interactive Performances: we setup a circle of around 20 drums and seating and begin performing. This draws a crowd and people take a seat and join us in rhythm. This is ideal for community festivals and events where there are larger numbers of people moving through a space, or where not everyone wishes to engage in a hands-on manner.

  • Focused Workshops: all participants have a drum/suitable instrument and we run a session where everyone creates music together.

We come to your location and provide all drums and equipment for all of our sessions.

‘A big thank you from the gang at Melbourne City Mission Sibling Program for a fabulous African Drumming Session. The kids had lots of fun on those drums, took some great shots and the session also inspired some to get their own set of drums. It was a large group and Simone handled them brilliantly, bringing out their musical talents. Even we adults enjoyed it heaps!’ (Melbourne City Mission Sibling Program)
