Soliwulen
Another rhythm from North East Guinea (Malinké), Soliwulen means ‘red panther’ which refers to the power and colour of the panther-skin garment the Soliwulen wears.
Traditionally, the rhythm is played to accompany a village festival where a master fetish maker dressed in red costume imparts prophetic information for villagers. Only one fetish maker in a region can be initiated as Soliwulen.
